St Catherine of Siena: A visual refresh for a changing school community

Showing the St Catherine of Siena community as it is today

Schools change quickly. Students grow, staff move on, programs evolve and leadership transitions bring a new chapter to a school community.

St Catherine of Siena recognised that its existing imagery no longer reflected the school as it was today. Many of the students featured in past photographs had grown beyond their early years or moved on to secondary school. The founding principal had retired, an acting principal had been in place, and a new principal had been appointed.

It was time for a visual refresh.

The brief

St Catherine of Siena wanted a current, cohesive collection of imagery that reflected its community as it is now: its students, staff, learning environments and everyday school life.

The images needed to support the school’s website, marketing and communications, while helping current and prospective families see the warmth, connection and sense of belonging that make the school distinctive.

The approach

We began by talking through the school’s priorities, key spaces, and the moments that best represented its community.

On shoot day, I worked around the rhythm of the school day - capturing learning in action, student-teacher connection, play, collaboration and the everyday details that make a school feel alive.

The aim was not to stage a perfect version of school life. It was to create natural, respectful imagery that showed the real people and relationships within the community.

The result

St Catherine of Siena now has a refreshed library of images that reflects its current students, staff and school environment.

The collection gives the school a stronger visual foundation for its website, communications and marketing, while helping families see the community their child would be joining.

Working together

This project reflects what I love most about school photography: helping education communities show the people, purpose and everyday moments behind their work.
