Behind the Lens: My Approach to Product Photography
Every product has a story. Let’s make sure yours is told beautifully.
Product photography isn’t just about good lighting and sharp images - though don’t worry, I’ve got both of those covered. It’s about creating visuals that connect with your ideal customer, align with your brand identity, and make your product feel irresistible.
After nearly 20 years in education, I stepped into the world of photography with a deep love for storytelling. While my classroom days might be behind me, the skills I bring - like attention to detail, patience, and creativity - still shape how I work. I don’t just snap pictures. I craft images that feel intentional and intuitive, all while ensuring the process feels easy and collaborative.
What makes my approach different?
Strategy before the shutter clicks
Before we get to the camera, I want to understand your brand. I ask questions like:
Who is your ideal customer?
How are the photos being used (website, socials, wholesale catalogues)?
What kind of emotion or aesthetic should we evoke?
This helps me visualise the right styling, background, props, and lighting setup.
Real talk: You don’t need a Pinterest-perfect setup. You need your brand essence captured.
That could mean photographing your handmade candles in warm, moody tones, or capturing your organic skincare line in clean, natural light with soft greenery. Every shoot is tailored. And whether we’re in my studio or shooting on location, I always work to make the environment reflect the energy of your business.
A collaborative process (without the overwhelm)
Many of my clients are busy business owners - some wearing all the hats. That’s why I aim to keep the process light and low-fuss. I provide direction, prep resources, and lots of communication leading up to shoot day. I also welcome inspiration images and brand guidelines if you have them.
Not sure what you need? That’s okay too - I’ll guide you.
Let’s be real - products don’t always behave.
There’s an art (and sometimes a little dance) to getting things positioned just right. I’ve worked with reflective bottles, squishy food items, odd-shaped packaging - you name it. I love the challenge. And while perfection isn’t the goal, cohesion and connection always are.
You bring the magic. I bring the lens.
At the end of the day, my job is to make sure your products are photographed in a way that feels you. That connects with your people. That says, “Hey, this brand is thoughtful, creative, and confident.”
Whether you're launching something new or refining your brand visuals, I’d love to be part of that journey.
